Israel is planning to invest heavily in West Bengal to capture the mobile telecom market. If successful they will be first foreign country to make money working with the communist regime. Until now numerous international companies have tried working with the communist regime. All have failed. Even Chinese companies shies away from this black hole situation. The Government of West Bengal has the worst record in creating conditions for foreign companies to make money. According sources in Israel, IDB Director (Housing and Construction) Roni Milo is internally skeptical but likes the idea of entering this virgin region early not to miss the boat of China-India avalanche of prosperity. While prosperity is nothing new in India these days, all of that is mainly concentrated in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune. The West Bengal has the best technical and artistic talent in India but poor infrastructure and political environment under the communists have made the state lag behind in India's current prosperity. For example, once the Capital of India under the British, Kolkata today has hardly any international flight landing in Dum Dum Airport. Many expatriate Indians lost their shirt in trying to establish business in this extremely talented but poorly managed state.

Israel's experiment will jot be new. Starting from George Soros to many famous business tycoons have dreamed of this promise land. You never hear about this projects after a while. The communist Government is sympathetic to Muslims and the state is threatened with millions of illegal Muslim Bangladeshi immigrants from the east. It will interesting to see how Israel fares in this environment.

Israeli conglomerate IDB on Saturday said it was looking forward to invest in the telecom sector in West Bengal in a big way. "We will soon send a professional group here to study feasibility of a telecom project. We are looking forward to invest in the State," IDB Director (Housing and Construction) Roni Milo, said here today. Speaking on the sidelines of a business conference organised by the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation, Milo said this would be the company's first major investment in India. Stating that Israel's telecom technology was considered among the world's best, he said IDB would invest in the technology and its applications in cellular phone systems in the state. IDB, one of the biggest conglomerates in Israel, had interests in telecom, papers, insurance, consumer electronics, real estate, among others.

Miracle is always possible. Sources in West Bengal say, the new chief minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya is a contemporary communists almost like Putin of Russia. May be they have learnt enough lessons. May be Israel will hit a home run and a miracle is waiting to happen!
