KOLKATA, JUNE 10. Israel is willing to engage ineconomic cooperation
with West Bengal. It is also looking forward to a warm relationship
with the country as a whole.

Stating this here today, the Israeli Ambassador in India, David
Danieli, added that he had had discussions on trade and business
relations with the West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb
Bhattacharjee. The possibility of offering Israeli expertise in
various fields of economic development to the State and promoting
business with West Bengal also figured in the talks.

Mr. Bhattacharjee reportedly touched on some of the economic
priorities of his Government with Mr. Danieli, focussing on the
agricultural sector and the State's agro-export potential.

Mr. Danieli was told that Israeli participation was also welcome in
other sectors such as steel, iron, plastic, food processing, gems and
jewellery. Sharing of know-how and expertise for effective water
management and improving irrigation facilities particularly in the
more arid zones of the State was also a possibility given Israel's
experience in this area.

Mr. Danieli was also looking forward to greater cultural exchanges
with India adding that there was a likelihood of films from Israel
featuring in the next Kolkata Film Festival.
